A friday at the races

It's racing season once again and this time we went to the Jebel Ali Racing Course to watch.

Now JARC is one of the oldest race course of Dubai & is infact celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. After watching the World cup at Meydaan[which is like one of the classiest places] this place was a bit of a let-down but then it's understandable because of the time it was built.

As soon as the race announcement is made, all the fanatics rush to the barriers to cheer. Though I was not one I still managed to squeeze inbetween and reach the front because I wanted to take pictures:-).

The races as usual were cheered for vociferously adults and kids alike. Yeah I know kids...infact lots of kids, ours were there with us too and they had a good time with their friends;-D. JARC is known for its garden-party like atmosphere. On the day of race[esp if its a weekend] families turn up in droves and pitch tents, umbrellas, mats and have a picnic:-).

Betting is norm at races in other countries but out here its illegal. But they do have a little something to encourage people to come to the races. We can mark our choice of winners of each race & then submit it for a draw. The prizes can be anything between cash prizes and electronic gadgets.

An ambulance ofcourse follows behind while each race is on, well just in case.

There is atleast a 30 minute break between each of these races and I whiled away my time taking pictures of little children;-D

And realised that taking pictures of children was no small task. The thing is....they dont sit still even for a moment;-). This little girl may look like she is in deep contemplation but the fact is that I caught her while she was taking a 2 second break from heightened activity[which was...clambering up on the bench from the front, then clambering down thru the little space at the back, then run around to the front & clambering up again.....

Lots of new buildings sprouting up everywhere and the 2 towers attracted my attention. No idea what they are called tho.

Clicked this picture of Burj Khalifa on the way. No matter how many times one sees it he or she is never tired. There's something awe-inspiring about the way it towers over everything. Did u know that we can see the Burj from any corner in Dubai:-).
